About HCCP
This year more than a million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, and over 500,000 will die from the disease. Worldwide, the death toll from cancer is six million and rising, as developing countries adopt Western behavior and consumption patterns. And yet, based on what we already know about cancer's causes, as many as half of these deaths could be prevented—and for a fraction of the cost of treatment.
Established in 1994, the Harvard Center for Cancer
Prevention at the Harvard
School of Public Health is
dedicated to helping people learn about healthy behavior and
decrease their risk of cancer and other chronic diseases. The
Center’s
communication, education, and research activities grow from collaborations
with a variety of partners throughout Harvard University, local
communities and national and international organizations. At
the Center, we take a multi-dimentional approach to reaching
diverse communities and motivating healthy behavior change.
Mission
It is the mission of the Harvard Center for Cancer Prevention
to promote cancer and chronic disease prevention through research,
communication and education. We provide consistent messaging,
develop tools, and address barriers to make positive lifestyle
change possible and sustainable.
