Clinical Pharmacoepidemiology Journal Club, 1998-1999

>>>>>>>  HAS FEN-PHEN CAUSED AN EPIDEMIC OF CARDIAC VALVULAR DISEASE?  <<<<<<<<
....or not?  And how would we know if it did?

This will be the subject of a provocative meeting of the Clinical
Pharmacoepidemiology Journal Club next Monday, November 2, from 12:30 to 1:30
p.m., sponsored by the Brigham and Women's Hospital Division of
Pharmacoepidemiology and Pharmacoeconomics. The paper to be discussed will be:
"A Population-Based Study of Appetite Suppressant Drugs and the Risk of Cardiac
Valve Regurgitation," by H. Jick et al, from the September 10, 1998 issue of
NEJM; the discussion will be led by Jerry Avorn, MD. Prior reading of the paper
would enhance the experience greatly but is not absolutely mandatory. To
receive a copy, contact Ms. Rita Bloom at 278-0930 or at
RBLOOM@BICS.BWH.HARVARD.EDU.
The discussion will occur in the Bayles Conference Room on the 3rd floor
of the "B" Building of the Brigham and Women's Hospital, just off the rotunda
of the old Peter Bent Brigham Hospital. Beverages and remarkably tasty cookies
will be served.  All are welcome.

It is strongly recommended but not required that you read the paper before each session.  If you need copies of the paper, e-mail Rita Bloom at least one week before the meeting.
For other questions, comments, or suggestions, e-mail Dr. Dan Solomon
