Obesity Epidemiology and Prevention
This interdiciplinary concentration is designed for students interested in trainingin the theoretical, methodological, andapplied knowledge and skills necessary toconduct obesity-related epidemiologic andprevention research. The concentrationincludes obesity epidemiology and preventionin international settings. Areas of traininginclude assessment of obesity in individualsand populations; biological andsocial determinants of obesity; epidemiologicand prevention study designs; health andsocial consequences of obesity; worksite-,community-, and school-based interventions;gene-environment interactions; andglobal obesity epidemiology and prevention.As the concentration does not offer adegree, prospective students must apply toa degree program, which can be in any ofthree departments: Nutrition, Epidemiology,or Society, Human Development, andHealth. Students must fulfill the requirementsof the home department, whichissues the degree, and the requirements ofthe concentration, which include core coursesin nutritional and obesity epidemiologyand obesity prevention. The concentration islimited to doctoral and two-year master’sstudents; 10 credits are required.
