The Division of Public Health Practice has launched a multifaceted Leadership Initiative for the School and its students. Through this Initiative HSPH students can begin to explore their potential as leaders through a variety of offerings. Options include course work, the Public Health Practice and Leadership Speakers Series and intensive small group seminars. The Initiative addresses the need for students to define their values and vision, develop their collaboration skills, interact with renowned leaders in the field, and gain perspective to address future public health challenges.
Lecture Series:
The Barry R. Bloom Public Health Practice Leadership Speaker Series focuses on the important role of leadership
within the realm of public health practice. National leaders in public
health examine topics regarding effective leadership.
HSPH Coursework:
Related courses, such as HPM535 and HPM536 are offered through the Department of Society, Human Development and Health.
A variety of other courses are available across the University's Schools at the Kennedy School of Government and Harvard Business School for enrichment in leadership studies.
Harvard Advanced Leadership Initiative:
The goal of the Harvard ALI Fellowship is to prepare
experienced leaders to transition from their primary income-earning
years to community and public service for their next years of life. The
Fellowship is designed to enhance and leverage the skills of
already-accomplished leaders for maximum impact on significant social
problems, including those that affect health and welfare, children and
the environment.
Student Advisory Committee:
The Student Advisory Committee (SAC), provides an avenue for students to work
with the Division of Public Health Practice in advancing public health
leadership to the students at HSPH.
Division Advisory Council:
The Division of Public Health Practice's Division Advisory Council (DAC) is comprised of leaders within the field of public health, faculty, HSPH leaders, and Division staff. The Council's mission is to work in partnership with the Division to advance its goals and to train, support, and empower future public health leaders. The DAC works in various subcommittees - one of which is the Leadership subcommittee - to support the Division's goals and leverage their experience to support student leadership initiatives.
