Gareth M. Green Excellence in Public Health Practice Award & Prize

The Division of Public Health Practice and the Office for Professional Education are sponsors for the Gareth Green Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice. This award is given in memory of the extraordinary professional life of Gareth M. Green, M.D., who served as Associate Dean for Professional Development and the first chair of the Advisory Council of the Division of Public Health Practice at the Harvard School of Public Health. Dr. Green came to the Harvard School of Public Health in 1990 from a practice of internal medicine. He believed that public health practice was essential to professional training in public health. His commitments to the highest standards of excellence in training and research have provided substantive guidelines for the advancement of public health practice.

The Gareth Green Award for Excellence in Public Health Practice is given to a student or student team for a practice project conducted while enrolled at HSPH.  The project must contribute to the improvement of the health of a defined population and make a significant contribution to the work of the organization, agency or community in which it is conducted.

Eligibility information is available within the Nominations information page (pdf link below). A plaque of recognition and an award of $500.00 is presented during the graduation activities.
