If the circumstances of your life change, Harvard has many resources and services that can help you. You may also be able to adjust your benefits to meet your new needs.
Certain "qualifying events" allow you to make changes that normally can only be made during annual open enrollment. If you experience such an event, you will need to file the necessary paperwork with the Benefits office within 60 days. Qualifying events include:
- Getting married
- Having or adopting a child
- Spouse changing employment
- Dependent losing eligibility
- Getting divorced
- Resigning, being laid off or retiring from Harvard
- Applying for long-term disability
- Taking unpaid leave of absence
There are, of course, many other life changes that Harvard's resources can help with. Find your particular event on our Work/Life Balance pages, and explore your options by visiting HARVie, Harvard's Employee Intranet. All of the following HARVie links require an HUID Number and PIN.
- Education
- Employment Status
- Family Status
- Financial/Legal
- Health
- Layoff
- Residence
- Retirement
- Taking Time Off
Every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of employee benefits information presented on our website. If there is any discrepancy between the information presented here and Harvard’s formal benefits plan documents, the latter will prevail.
