Information Technology Department

Welcome to the website for the Department of Information Technology of the Harvard School of Public Health.

Our aim is to provide the community with one-stop shopping for all information technology needs. This site will include information on:

  • HSPH policies and procedures
  • Complete information on computing at HSPH
  • A menu of services available in all areas of the department
  • Account forms and information
  • Hardware and software purchasing information
  • Facility information
  • Training material and FAQs
  • Information on new initiatives

We encourage the community to submit suggestions and requests for the type of information that would be most useful to our user community. We are very excited about many initiatives in IT for 2009. We are moving to an outstanding email and calendaring system. We have made major network and server upgrades and are quickly growing a high performance research cluster. The HSPH content management system for our website was launched in April 2007.

We hope that the new website will help to keep the community abreast of new technology being introduced at HSPH.

High Performance Research Cluster

In 2005, HSPH launched a high performance research cluster of high-speed dual processor computers. These computers are tied together with the LINUX operating system creating one large supercomputer that is capable of running analysis on many different types of statistical software including SAS, STATA, and Mathematica.

If faculty are interested in purchasing nodes as part of this expansion, please contact Bill Mahoney, Assistant Director of Information Technology, 432-1751, cluster_admin@hsph.harvard.edu. For more information, please see the research cluster page.

Status:

  • Cluster contains 81 nodes/262 CPUs; further expansion is being planned
