Research

Income Inequality

My main research interest is the effect of the relative distribution of income on health, especially after controlling for absolute income and its side effects.
I wrote my PhD dissertation on the subject. Three papers came out of it, one published at JECH, another in review and the third will be out soon.

Maternal and fetal health

I have also published research on maternal and fetal health; specifically on malnutrition and hypertensive diseases during pregnancy and the masculinity ratio on fetal mortality.

Public Health Economics

Apart from the previous two areas, during my postdoc at HSPH I will also work on the effects that some economic and political decisions have on health. More specifically, a) the effect of the Brazilian minimum wage and social transfers on fertility, b) the health effects of investments from the federal government on specific health areas.

Contact

If you are interested in contacting me regarding any of my articles please feel free to do so at: achiaveg (at) hsph.harvard.edu. I am also interested in future collaborations regarding a) social epidemiology in Brazil, b) public health economics in developing countries.

Lattes CV (Portuguese).
