Dr. Raquel Cohen,MPH and MD '49, professor emeritus in the Department of Psychiatry at University of Miami Medical School, has worked extensively on developing protocols for mental health and other professionals to address the psychological and social consequences of disasters. Her methods are used to train workers in Latin America and the Caribbean. Cohen, the author of Mental Health Services in Disasters: A Manual for Humanitarian Workers, is now working with the State of Florida to train professionals to manage the mental health needs of people affected by terrorist events.
