Evaluating Behavior Change
Time Series Surveillance
The AMOD Evaluation uses a quasi-experimental design and statistical methods: the beliefs and behaviors of students at the AMOD sites are compared over time with those of students at high-binge comparison schools from the National College Alcohol Study. This portion of the evaluation is conducted using the CAS survey.
What is the College Alcohol Study (CAS) Survey?
The CAS survey assesses alcohol-related knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors of students biannually at a nationally representative sample of four-year colleges across the United States. A random sample of students is surveyed at each participating college using an anonymous questionnaire, with larger samples being drawn from AMOD schools to facilitate more in-depth analyses of individual AMOD schools and of AMOD schools in comparison with each other. Supplemental surveys are conducted at the AMOD sites in years with no national survey.
