HSPH Student Hsu Receives Award

Congratulations to Leslie Hsu, recipient of the first Julius B. Richmond Young Leader in Public Health Award, given by the US Public Health Service, Region I, and the Massachusetts Public Health Association. Hsu (center) received the award from Richmond (right) at the April 7 bicentennial celebration of the US Public Health Service. Also on hand were Surgeon General David Satcher (left) and US Senator Edward Kennedy (D-MA, not pictured).

Hsu, a master's student in the Department of Health and Social Behavior, was chosen for this honor because of her work with the HepB Initiative, a program that is raising awareness about hepatitis B and offering testing and vaccination to Boston's Chinatown and surrounding neighborhoods. The HepB Initiative, comprised of students from HSPH, HMS, and other area graduate schools, has been the feature of stories in previous issues of Around the School, Focus, and the Boston Globe.
