Minority Postdoctoral Fellowships Available through Division

HSPH is currently seeking applicants for its Minority Postdoctoral Fellowship Program. The program encourages the recruitment of minority research fellows who have an interest in an academic career.

Each department is encouraged to nominate candidates for the one-year fellowship, renewable for a second year. Sponsoring departments will provide half of the stipend for fellows selected for the program, with the other half provided by the program. At least two appointments are available for this academic year.

HSPH began the program in 1991 with support from the AT&T and the Helena Rubinstein Foundations. The Division of Public Health Practice currently oversees the program. The fellowships are designed to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in academic public health careers and to increase minority faculty at the school.

Since its establishment, the program has trained 14 fellows: eight men and six women who are equally divided between African Americans and Latinos.

The Division is working with Ichiro Kawachi, director of the Harvard Center for Society and Health, who is also establishing a minority postdoctoral fellowship program.

Together, the programs will feature activities that will improve the fellow's experiences in the areas of research, data management, and networking opportunities, said Betty Johnson, fellowship coordinator at the Division.

Contact Betty Johnson at 617-496-8064 with questions and potential applications. Application deadline is March 30.
