In Memoriam: Richard Daggy

It is with deep regret that we share the news of the recent passing of Richard Daggy, former assistant dean of HSPH from 1964 through 1966 and associate dean for international programs from 1966 to 1973. He passed away on Sunday, January 21 at his home, River Song Farm, in Francestown, New Hampshire, after a lengthy illness. He was 86.

Daggy came to HSPH in 1964 as a lecturer on tropical public health and served as the school’s acting dean in 1971 following the resignation of Dean John Snyder. He retired from the faculty in 1981.

Prior to joining HSPH, Richard studied entomology at the University of Minnesota and taught biology there as well. He served in the navy in World War II when he helped to fight the spread of malaria. He served for 17 years as the medical director for the American Arabian Oil Company in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia and was also the director of the Concord, New Hampshire Audubon Society.

Daggy leaves his son Hormoz Soheili of New Boston, New Hampshire, and a sister, Lorraine Zweig of Tryon, North Carolina.

A memorial service is planned for Saturday, May 12 at 1 p.m. at the Meeting House, in Francestown, New Hampshire. A reception at River Song Farm will follow the service.
