In Memoriam: Philip Wuorinen

The school expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Philip Wuorinen, a research assistant in the Department of Nutrition, who died suddenly on January 4. He was 28 years old.

Wuorinen had been at the school for two years and was working in Frank Sacks' lipid laboratory. His current project involved metabolism studies of apolipoprotein and the effect of diet and hormones.

Wuorinen is survived by his wife, Elizabeth, and a son, Thomas Philip, 7 months.

Helena Judge, Wuorinen's project manager, said the department was "in shock, devastated, and in disbelief about the whole thing. We can't even imagine replacing him."

A memorial fund has been established to benefit the family. Donations can be sent to the Philip K. Wuorinen Memorial Fund c/o Eastern Bank, 30 Haven St., Reading, MA 01867.
