Betty Hauser Betty Hauser, retired staff member in the Department of Environmental Health, died on June 19 after an illness. Hauser first worked for John Spengler, Akira Yamaguchi Professor of Environmental Health and Human Habitation, in 1975 and joined the Physiology Program in 1976 where she worked as a librarian, editor, and secretary. As a child, Hauser escaped Nazi threats by traveling on the last boat that took Jewish children from the Netherlands to England. Years passed before she knew whether her parents were dead or alive, but the family was eventually reunited. "Betty was an amazing woman who was never conquered by evil or pain and who always affirmed what was right and good," said Joseph Brain, the Joseph David Cecil K. and Philip Drinker Professor of Environmental Physiology in the Department of Environmental Health. "We will miss her. Her family and the world will miss her." |
