In Memoriam: Gareth Green
Green had been a member of the school community since 1990, when he joined the school as associate dean for professional education and professor of environmental health. He directed the Master of Public Health (MPH) program and led the Office for Professional Education. During his tenure at the school, he guided the development of career-oriented concentrations in the MPH program and emphasized the importance of public health practice as an integral part of an HSPH education. After announcing his retirement earlier this year, Green was featured in an Around the School article that included a summary of his professional history and testimonials from his colleagues. That story can be found in the June 3, 1998, Around the School, or on the web at www.hsph.harvard.edu/ats/Jun3/jun3_02.html. The memorial Gareth M. Green Fund is currently being organized
to support students in the MPH program. Checks, payable to
Harvard University, may be sent to the fund care of Roberta Gianfortoni,
Office for Professional Education, Kresge 506, 677 Huntington Avenue,
Boston, MA 02115. For more information, call 432-0090.
