Newly Created Class Day to Add to Commencement Fun Commencement has just gotten even more festive. The Office for Students is inviting the entire school and the families of graduating students to the first-ever HSPH Class Day on Wednesday, June 6, the day before Commencement, in the Kresge Courtyard from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. In the past, these awards have been bestowed at an off-campus dinner, but this year's ceremony will be open to the entire HSPH community in its backyard. Several student performances from International Night will follow the awards presentation. Sponsored by the Student Coordinating Committee each year, International Night features HSPH students from many countries showcasing cultural arts such as dance, music and fashion from their native countries. A still-to-be-chosen student speaker will also deliver a light-hearted, humorous address. The 10-piece swing band White Heat Orchestra will follow, with revelers encouraged to dance and enjoy hors d'oeuvres. Dyann Wirth, professor of tropical public health in the Department of Immunology and Infectious Diseases, suggested the swing band, and the committee of students, faculty and administrators who met to discuss potential Class Day activities enthusiastically adopted the idea. Said Assistant Dean for Students and Alumni Robin Worth, Class Day will
extend Commencement festivities while giving friends and families who
made the effort to come to HSPH and Boston for Commencement more opportunity
to celebrate with graduating students at a very special time in their
academic careers.
