In Memoriam: Holly Bennett

It is with deep regret that we report the death of Holly Bennett, a research associate in the Department of Nutrition. Bennett died on March 18 after a long illness.

Bennett, a cell biologist, earned her doctorate in anatomy and structural biology at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and later was a research fellow at the Whitehead Institute for Biomedical Research at MIT.

In 1989, she temporarily left science for the challenges and rewards of raising two daughters. She returned to her career in 1997, funded by a National Institutes of Health grant targeted specifically to women returning to scientific careers after an extended leave.

Marianne Wessling-Resnick, professor in the Department of Nutrition, worked closely with Bennett. Wessling-Resnick said, "Holly was an extraordinary individual. She battled her illness courageously and remained optimistic until the end."
