Dean's Forum Asks Where Epidemiology is Headed Epidemiology has become integral to every public health student's education. That was one sentiment expressed at "Epidemiology in the 21st Century" on May 4 in the Snyder Auditorium. The discussion was part of a series hosted by Dean Barry Bloom on the Future of Public Health. The field has become deeply multidisciplinary and successful enough that some researchers have asked, "What's left to find?" observed panelist Clarice Weinberg of the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. But she pointed to recent discoveries such as increasing folate during pregnancy to deter neural tube defects in babies as a modern example of epidemiology at work. The next panel discussions will take place in the fall. |
