New Student Course Evaluations to Be Used, Tested, and Evaluated
The new form also includes an updated demographic questionnaire. This information is gathered on a portion of the evaluation that is removed by the Office of Academic Affairs prior to tabulating the remaining information on the forms, insuring the confidentiality of the students who complete the evaluations. The CEP will continue to pilot this form for the a, ab, and b period courses of the 1998-99 academic year. The committee will then evaluate the effectiveness of the form and revise it as necessary. As always, completion of the form is optional for students. The CEP, however, encourages students to fill out the form completely because it will provide useful feedback to course instructors. The CEP cautions that the revised form contains questions that may offend some people. The purpose of these questions is to evaluate the extent to which HSPH courses address the public health concerns of diverse populations. The CEP has developed a protocol to assure that all sensitive
information is kept confidential and is making this protocol available
to the school community. It can be found in the
Faculty Handbook section of the school's website at
www.hsph.harvard.edu/facultyhandbook/. A statement
of purpose will also be distributed with each course evaluation.
The statement provides a detailed description of the purpose of
new questions on the form. Questions or comments on the evaluation
can be directed to Timothy Sloate in the Office for Academic Affairs at
432-1327, or via Email at tsloate@sph.harvard.edu.
