Male Involvement Study
Most of the programs aimed at reducing pediatric HIV infection in developing countries have concentrated almost exclusively on women and excluded their male partners. This exclusion of male partners limits the impact of programs aimed at reducing pediatric HIV infection and AIDS. To understand the extent of male involvement in the Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) Program currently offered in Botswana, and identify factors that may enhance women’s participation in the PMTCT program, a survey was conducted among 586 men whose partners were pregnant and offered the PMTCT program at the following four sites in Botswana: Gaborone, Lobatse, Molepolole, and Mochudi. The findings of this study are currently being analyzed and should be available soon.
