Department of Epidemiology Student Profile
Ambika Satija
SD student, Department of Epidemiology
Ambika is concentrating in nutritional epidemiology, with an interest in working on the emerging problem of chronic obesity among children in her native India and other developing countries.
She believes that research and public health interventions are necessary to prevent childhood obesity in these nations from reaching the high levels found in developed countries.
Before entering HSPH, Ambika spent nearly three years as a research fellow at the Public Health Foundation of India, where she worked on projects in a wide range of public health areas, including nutrition and obesity. With a background in psychology and human sciences, she is keen on understanding the behavioral determinants of obesity and chronic diseases. She was attracted to HSPH because of its reputation in causal inference and particularly enjoys her courses on methodological issues.
Ambika is also enthusiastic about the school’s emphasis on team-based learning, which draws on the diversity of student skills and experiences, and she notes that it helps students form lasting friendships.
