Postdoctoral
Opportunities
in Radiation Biology

This program is supported by the National Cancer
Institute to provide research training in modern Radiation Biology
(T32 CA09078).
The program covers a broad array of subjects conducted
in internationally recognized laboratories:
-
cell biology of radiation effects
-
cellular responses to free radicals
-
checkpoint activation by DNA damage
-
development of novel radiotherapy agents
- oncogenic and genotoxic stress signaling mechanisms
- mouse models approaches for stress signal transduction
- radiation functional genomics and toxicogenomics
The training program is based in the Department of Genetics
and Complex Diseases of the Harvard School of Public Health, but
preceptors are also located at the Medical School, representing
the Department of Nuclear Medicine, at the Dana-Farber Cancer Center,
and at the Massachusetts General Hospital, representing the Department
of Radiation Oncology.
A major strength of this program is the diversity of its faculty
and the opportunity for fellows to interact with world-class scientists
and physicians in the Harvard biomedical research complex. In addition,
the Harvard School of Public Health and Harvard Medical School provide
a unique environment with state-of-the-art core facilities for cellular
and molecular analysis, data processing, and outstanding libraries
and other support services. The Boston area is an excellent location
for young scientists, with top colleagues in all disciplines and
visiting lecturers from around the world.
Applicants must have a PhD in biology, biophysics, or related
sciences, or an MD, DVM, or other suitable degree. Applicants must
be citizens or permanent residents of the United States (i.e., need
a "Green Card"). The training program consists of 2-3
years of laboratory research and training under one of the preceptors,
including opportunities to present research accomplishments at local,
national, and international meetings. Past trainees have obtained
leadership positions in academic, government, and industrial research.
