Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies

Exploratory Workshops

The Pop Center is pleased to announce a Call for Exploratory Workshop proposals.

Description:
The Harvard Pop Center has funding to support exploratory or themed workshops developed by it faculty members as a means of aiding in the advancement of emerging population study fields. We invite our members to submit proposals for one-day workshops to be held at the Pop Center in 2012. Topics can be derived from a number of disciplines - global health, demography, economics, biology, sociology, social epi, etc. The workshops should be open to the Harvard community at large with the aim of attracting both senior scientists as well as young, independent researchers. The relatively small scale (in terms of people involved) of the sessions should provide an ideal platform for focus on a specific topic and for all participants to contribute to discussions, as well as possibly plan follow-up collaborative work and possibly even grant submissions.

Parameters:
The Pop Center will consider funding up to $10,000 to cover the costs of convening these workshops (i.e. speaker honoraria, food and beverage, travel, materials). Applicants should describe their proposed format - straight lecture, facilitated discussion, panel presentations, etc. The sessions should be open to the Harvard community. They will be required to take place at the Pop Center (9 Bow Street in Harvard Square) where we have a conference room that seats apprx 40. Topics should be related to population studies or population health. Administrative support may also be available to help with logistics.

If you would like to convene an exploratory workshop, please complete this application. The workshop must occur in 2012. The deadline to submit an application is January 20, 2012. We will review and be back in touch by February 3, 2012.
