Harvard Center for Population and Development Studies

Research

The Center's mission is to lead interdisciplinary research on critical issues of population health with the broad aim of promoting the well-being of the global poor. We continue to pursue innovative research that crosses social, biomedical, and public health sciences. Our group of Center-based researchers continues to grow, providing a solid foundation for research projects and the acquisition of external funding related to our pursuits.

Working in conjunction with Director Berkman, the Center's faculty steering committee identified four critical focal areas that the Center will address in the years to come:

  1. Social and Environmental Determinants of Population Health
  2. Migration and Immigration: A New Experience
  3. Causes and Consequences of Demographic and Health Transitions: Aging Societies
  4. Health Consequences of Work and Labor Force Policies (especially as they pertain to women)
