'Lifelong Teacher' Dies at 87

Up
until her final days, Mary L. Passage was working
to help children. Mrs. Passage, the first woman
principal of a major Virginia high school who
later helped start Newport News' first alternative
school, died Saturday at age 87. Mary L. Passage
Middle School was named in her honor. "Education
has suffered a great loss. She was a real educator."
