Mentors, Mentees Plant Tree to Celebrate January as National Mentoring Month
January 20, 2005, The Northeast Georgian

Mentors and mentees worked together Jan. 4 to plant a tree outside Woodville Elementary School in celebration of National Mentor Month.

Three mentors meet with Woodville Elementary students, but mentors work with students in every school in the county.

Future annual celebrations are planned at each school in the county; next year's ceremony will take place at South Habersham Middle School.

A dedication poem read at the ceremony compared the planting to the purpose of mentoring.

"As nature trains the budding tree to thrive and flourish, nurturing adults teach the young what values to establish."
