Introducing
The ReelPeople Project

The Harvard Mentoring Project invited real-life mentor/mentee pairs to share their stories for the chance to be featured in National Mentoring Month 2008 PSAs. The two pairs selected were nominated by: Bay Area Mentoring (San Francisco) on behalf of Friends for Youth; and, the Governor's Commission on Community Service in Denver, Colorado on behalf of Denver Kids, Inc., a member program of the Youth Mentoring Collaborative.

SPOTLIGHT Book
The Last Dropout: Stop the Epidemic!

The Last Droupout: Stop the Epidemic!
By Bill Milliken

By Bill Milliken

The Last Dropout: Stop the Epidemic!, by Bill Milliken, founder and vice chairman of Communities In Schools (CIS) addresses one of the biggest social issues of our time, the American dropout crisis. One out of three students in the United States does not graduate from high school creating an epidemic that will have a lasting impact on the future of our country. The Last Dropout explains how the entire community can and must play a role in education reform, reversing this startling trend. Milliken believes that together, the business, non-profit, public policy and education sectors can fix this issue and have students graduate school prepared for life.  All author proceeds are being donated to CIS, the nation's largest dropout prevention organization. January is National Mentoring Month. The White House, the U.S. Congress, leading media companies, and nonprofit groups have joined together to help recruit mentors for young people.
National Mentoring Month is spearheaded by the Harvard School of Public Health, MENTOR/National Mentoring Partnership, and the Corporation for National and Community Service, and is supported by grants from MetLife Foundation and The Curtis L. Carlson Family Foundation.
