Abstract of Administrative Core

The Administrative Core provides overall oversight, coordination, and integration of Center activities. The Core is responsible for:

    1. The fiscal and resource management planning to assure that the needs of each Project Leader and Core Leader are met;
    2. Organizing meetings, preparing reports, and communicating with NIEHS, EPA and other organizations;
    3. Supervising the conduct and oversight of the Quality Management Plan.

The Core operates through an Executive Committee composed of Administrative Core personnel and the Leaders of each of the Projects and Cores. The Administrative Core also sponsors a "newly-recruited Center Scientist program", which has already recruited and will provide 2 years of support for promising new environmental health scientists to work on center-related research (in 2004-2006: Dr. Adrienne Ettinger and Dr. David Senn). The Administrative Core interacts with and serves as the conduit for input from the External Advisory Committee to the Center Director, the function of which is to assist in evaluating the merit, value, and contribution of each of the research Projects; the relevance and importance of individual organizational elements to accomplishing the overall goals of the Center; and the effectiveness of the newly recruited Center scientist program.
