Reforming China's Healthcare System
In collaboration with the Tsinghua
University School of Public Policy and Management and the Tsinghua School of
Business Administration, the China Initiative has been conducting a
comprehensive study to diagnose major problems facing China's health system and
to generate policy recommendations. On
January 21, 2007, the China Initiative presented interim findings of this study
at the International Policy Seminar on Healthcare Reforms in China in Beijing.
On June 22, 2007 a comprehensive package of policy recommendations was
delivered by the China Initiative's Chinese counterpart at Tsinghua University
to the State Council Leading Group on Healthcare Reforms. Responses from major policy makers to the
study's analysis and recommendations have been very positive, including
responses from senior officials from the State Development and Reforms
Commission, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Finance. The team is in the
process of producing a book based on the study, and will present four papers at
the American Public Health Annual Meeting on November 6, 2007 in Washington, DC.
This project is supported by a gift from Johnson & Johnson.
