AN INVESTMENT IN CYPRUS AND THE MEDITERRANEAN REGION
The collaboration between the Republic of Cyprus and the Harvard School of Public Health (HSPH) will yield research results and train a new generation of experts whose efforts will transcend national and political boundaries and help to protect the environment and public health throughout Cyprus and the Mediterranean region. To accomplish this goal, the Republic of Cyprus has committed to invest over $34 million over a ten-year period for the Initiative. This represents 52 percent of the financial goal for the Initiative which is to raise a total of $65 million.
Of the $34 million invested by the Republic of Cyprus, $11 million is in the form of an endowment to be used to establish and sustain the Cyprus International Institute for the Environment and Public Health (CII), $9 million to establish an endowment to sustain the HSPH-Cyprus Program for the Environment and Public Health (HCP) and fund scholarships for students from Cyprus and the region, and $14 million is to support the HSPH's activities to build the programs of the Initiative.
To ensure the long-term success of the Initiative, HCP and CII must raise an additional $31 million over the next several years.
