Department of Epidemiology Seminar Series

Speaker:

Carol Brayne, CBE, FMedSci
Professor, Department of Public Health and Primary Care
Institute of Public Health, University of Cambridge

Abstract:
Population studies of older people with a focus on have undoubtedly informed policy development and research funding for dementia, most particularly with a focus on Alzheimer’s disease. This talk will reflect on these studies. It will draw in particular on research within the UK across three decades, and whether the policy and research that has been justified using findings from such studies has actually matched the evidence emerging from them. This will be framed in the context of the challenges we face as human societies. This includes our lack of success in providing sufficiently compelling evidence to drive action in reducing global and national inequalities, including in brain health. How might we as public health and epidemiological researchers move towards generating better evidence that meets our challenges?
