Microsoft Lync Messenger

Microsoft Lync Messenger is here!

The HSPH IT Department is happy to announce the roll out of Microsoft Lync Messenger. This will replace Groupwise Messenger for IM use at HSPH.

Some Highlights of the Program:

  • Lync will expand connectivity by allowing IM, video and audio conferencing among HSPH and the greater Harvard Community!
  • Harvard has also setup Lync to allow IM with users on Yahoo, AIM and Google Talk!
  • Lync is available for Windows and Macs!

Because Lync is a licensed product it can only be installed on HSPH owned desktops and laptops.

For Windows computers with the Novell login software, you can install Lync any time.

Step 1:

In Windows XP- Go to Start – All Programs – SPH Network Applications – Software Downloads – Install MS Lync.

In Windows 7 – Go to Start – All Programs – SPH Network Applications – Lync

Step 2:

The install is very easy and fast. Afterwards you will need to log into the system for the first time. Please click here for instructions to login.

For Mac computers, please contact the Helpdesk for a free install on your HSPH owned Mac. The login instructions are the same as for Windows.

Note: It will take about 30 minutes for Microsoft Lync to synchronize with the Global Address List
