The activities of the Center's continuing education and outreach
programs reach to the far corners of New England. The outreach program,
a joint effort with the University of Massachusetts at Lowell, networks
with academic institutions, agencies, professional societies, public
health departments, unions, and community associations to increase
awareness of occupational safety and health issues and foster the
development of a regional occupational safety and health network.
Continuing Education Program
Mid-career training is offered through short-term courses for
physicians, nurses, industrial hygienists, safety professionals,
and other occupational safety and health professionals, paraprofessionals,
and technicians. Up to 2,000 individuals per year subscribe to these
professional level courses.
Participants select from a curriculum of over fifty courses each
year, ranging from basic to advanced levels. Many of the courses
draw an interdisciplinary audience. Continuing education credit
is offered.

Outreach Program Features
The primary goal of this aspect of the program is to encourage
the evolution of occupational safety and health training capabilities
at other academic institutions.
Of particular note is the assembly for visiting scholars, which
brings a select group of scholars representing institutions of higher
education, state legislature, and other organizations to the Center
once each month for an orientation to the field of occupational
safety and health, meetings with faculty advisors and a program
development seminar.
