We are pleased to announce the new graduate training in Occupational Health Services Research funded by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health. This program prepares doctoral and post-doctoral students to conduct research about health care services for workers and to make policy recommendations about access, quality and costs of care. This program draws from courses in Environmental & Occupational Medicine & Epidemiology (EOME) and Health Policy Management (HPM).
  • Individuals with a background in health and social-behavioral sciences who are interested in how health care rules, regulatory policy, or insurance schemes affect the working population, the delivery of care, and the cost of care.
  • Occupational health and safety specialists who want to study health and safety management in the context of health care services for workers.
  • Health care professionals who want to explore the connections between work and health in the health care management of work-related problems.
  • Health care researchers and economists who want to adapt their experiences in health services research to lay out the questions and methods for this new field of occupational health services research.
  • Administrators of occupational health services, workers' compensation, or union healthcare funds who seek answers to questions of access, quality, cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

  • What is the quality of care for worker health problems?
  • What is the workers' experience of health problems, health care, and return to work?
  • Is there a difference in health care for work-related problems and non-work-related problems?
  • Are health benefit levels for workers adequate?
  • Do barriers to care exist -who gets what, when, and how?
  • What makes for successful prevention and treatment of work-related problems?
