Law and Public Health Program
The Law and Public Health (LPH) program, housed within the Department of Health Policy and Management, is devoted to both teaching and research. Coursework introduces lawyers to the science of public health and provides training in the analysis of public health problems. Graduates of the program receive an MPH degree and are prepared for positions in a health, law, or environmental section of a law firm, local, state and federal government, a hospital legal counsel's office, a nonprofit advocacy organization, or academia. The Law and Public Health faculty are dually trained in law and health services research and policy. The faculty research agenda rests on three pillars: health care law and policy, public health law and policy, and ethics. Current research projects focus on the medical malpractice system, patient safety and medical error prevention, health care dispute resolution, and research ethics.
