Dr. Kane's research focuses on the financial and managerial performance of health care organizations. Recent and ongoing projects include:
- Analysis of individual health insurance markets at the state level -- how insurers and consumers behave, and policy implications
- Assessment of the financial performance of hospitals in a local market area in which a nonprofit hospital converts to investor-owned status
- Development of quantifiable measures of charitable activity, tax-exempt value, and financial performance of health care organizations
- Case studies of the feasibility of implementing managed care tools in a variety of international settings
