8 February 2001, at the initiative of Arjun
Sengupta, the Independent Expert, the Center for Development
and Human Rights (CDHR) was established in New Delhi. The
objectives of the CDHR are to provide policymakers with specific
input in the field of the right to development so that they
will be able to formulate public policy; promote research
and project development in public policy and human rights;
serve as a network for academic and research institutions
involved in joint and coordinated research on various aspects
of development and human rights; provide academic and training
support to those actively involved in the field of human rights
and public policy development; publish reports, occasional
papers and other academic papers concerning various aspects
of development and public policy; and establish a depository
library and web site for networking and exchanging information
on developing human rights and public policy.
