Mary C. Smith-Fawzi, ScD, Instructor, Harvard Medical School

Dr. Smith-Fawzi is Co-Director of Research for the Access to Services and Human Rights Learning Group of the Joint Learning Initiative on Children and HIV/AIDS (JLICA). An epidemiologist, she is Instructor at Harvard Medical School in the Department of Social Medicine and has been working collaboratively with Partners In Health (PIH) for the past nine years. Dr. Smith-Fawzi has focused her work on improving access to care in developing countries, has experience in training and capacity-building, and is co-principal investigator of a grant funded by the Fogarty International Center to train Haitian staff in research methodology. She has worked on issues of malnutrition and mortality among children in Iraq, as well as issues of mental health and HIV in Tanzania and the Haitian refugee youth population in Boston. Currently she is working on a feasibility study of a psychosocial intervention for children affected by HIV in rural Haiti.
