Your gift to scholarships at HSPH supports students like Mara—future public health leaders who will protect and improve the lives of millions of people around the world.
Mara Hansen, SM ’11, applied to HSPH while working in a village in rural Morocco. After two years as a health worker, she knew she wanted to return to school to gain skills—particularly in data collection and effective implementation—to better serve people with poor access to health services, particularly women and children. “I chose HSPH,” Mara says, “because of its strong foundation in ethics and equity and because of the financial aid package I received.” While a student here she worked in the Mississippi Delta with Project Antares, a joint project of HSPH and Harvard Business School that devised business models to address infant mortality and chronic disease. She now works as an Associate Program Officer with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation in Seattle.
