Student Engagement Opportunities
GHP welcomes student engagement throughout the year and offers the following opportunities for students to interact closely with faculty, provide input to and receive guidance from the department, and enjoy the GHP Community.
Thursday Brown Bag Seminars: All students are welcome to the GHP Brown Bag Series, held in the GHP 12th floor conference room on Thursdays from 12:30-1:30 p.m. This series features faculty, researchers and guests of the GHP department and provides an opportunity for discussion and intellectual exchange.
The GHP Master Calendar highlights other GHP events and those of our partners programs, such as:
Takemi Program on International Health
Women & Health Initiative Seminars
Harvard Humanitarian Initiative and Academy
FXB, the CPDS, and HGHI
Student / Faculty Meetings
GHP Chair, Wafaie Fawzi, meets monthly with small, degree specific, cohorts of students for open discussion. Student invitations are coordinated by the GHP Education Office.
During the academic year, our degree programs hold a series of meetings. Key meetings involving the full cohort focus on requirements and activities specific to each program. Additional meetings are held for first-year doctoral students, and for SM2 Summer Internships and thesis work.
GHP hosts two department socials for all students, in early fall and mid-spring to provide an informal and relaxed environment for GHP faculty, staff, researchers and students to socialize.
GHP students are also welcome to the annual holiday party, held in early December each year. Graduating students and their families are invited to the GHP Graduation lunch, held at HSPH during the week of Commencement.
GHP students are encouraged to represent the Department at the Prospective Student and Admitted Student Open Houses, act as a Department Contact for Prospective Students, and participate in Virtual Chats.
New SM2 students are invited to join the SM2 Buddy program coordinated by the returning cohort of SM2 students. In doing so, new students have the opportunity to learn about the program prior to matriculation and enjoy an informal get together before the academic year begins.
Returning Doctoral students initiated a casual off-site mid-year gathering for all GHP doctoral students, providing an opportunity to get together for informal chat and appetizers.
