Harvard Programs on AIDS in Africa: A University Responds
Held at the Harvard School of Public Health, these university-wide events include presentations by Harvard faculty on their work worldwide, panel discussions on current issues, and discussion sessions.
The issues of antiretroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) was addressed in this symposium. Included were presentations on trials and programs, questions surrounding drug resistance and PMTCT in resource-scarce settings, and challenges and other considerations.
This symposium revolved around the issue of the AIDS epidemic in sub-Saharan Africa. Included were panel discussions, a discussion session focused on "What More Can Harvard Do?" and a poster exhibition. The former president of the Republic of Zambia, His Excellency Kenneth David Kaunda, and Harvard University Provost Steven Hyman both spoke.
