Collaborative Regional & State Conferences:
HSPH-CPHP draws upon its many partners to develop and implement
trainings and conferences that meet the needs of workers involved in emergency
preparedness. Past conferences have included partnerships with the Boston Public
Health Commission, National Laboratory Training Network, Northeast Branch of the
American Society for Microbiology, Maine Bureau of Health, Maine Center for
Public Health, Massachusetts Association of Health Boards, Massachusetts
Department of Public Health, Massachusetts Nursing Association and many others.
Public Health Preparedness Speaker Series:
Through this school-based initiative,
the HSPH-CPHP provides monthly lectures to members of the academic and medical
community on a wide range of relevant and up-to-date topics throughout the academic year. These lunchtime
lectures are intended for a lay audience and cover many aspects of emergency
preparedness. Archived webcasts of previous lectures are
available online.
Distance Learning:
HSPH-CPHP hosts a
state-of-the-art Learning Management System (LMS) and has the capacity to offer
an extensive catalog of online courses to public health professionals. In
collaboration with the Boston Public Health Commission, HSPH-CPHP is using this LMS to
provide training for citizens interested in volunteering for the Boston Medical Reserve Corps (BMRC). Training topics include:
administering vaccines or medications; providing logistical support; ensuring
smooth clinic operations; assisting with patient support; and providing
essential communication and support.
Project Public Health Ready:
Since
2003, HSPH-CPHP has been assisting local towns/cities with meeting the
requirements to be recognized by the National Association of County and
City Health Officials (NACCHO) as being ready to respond to a public health
emergency, or Project Public Health Ready. This assistance has included:
creating training assessments, developing training plans, facilitating exercise
and drills, evaluating drills, drafting After Action Reports, and assessing the
infrastructural capacity of towns/cities participating in the project.
Vulnerable Populations:
HSPH-CPHP is
committed to understanding and addressing disparities in emergency preparedness
and response, and enhancing education that will encourage emergency preparedness
efforts for elderly, poor, disabled, minority and culturally diverse
populations. Recent CPHP initiatives have included a Continuing Education Institute at the 134th Annual American
Public Health Association Meeting and a joint effort with the Boston Public Health Commission,
Equity in Preparedness: A
Collaborative Symposium for Populations with Special Health Care Needs in
Boston.
