Student Reserve Corps Information for Students
Benefits
By joining the SRC, you will get to experience public health service learning opportunities and practice quantitative methods, applied epidemiology, and observational skills. You will also have the opportunity to work with an interdisciplinary team of your fellow students and local public health professionals and agencies. Some of these contacts could lead to future internships or jobs. Occasionally you may even have the opportunity to publish papers or and interact with our research teams in several research projects.
Activities
Students will learn about SRC opportunities through emails or phone messages that will be sent out when a volunteer activity becomes available. Emails and messages will describe the type of activity, time commitment required, specific skills needed and whether there is travel involved. If a project is of interest, you are encouraged to participate by replying to the message and including information on your availability.
Training
SRC students are invited to attend at least 2 face-to-face trainings held at the Harvard School of Public Health. Trainings will include topics like volunteer orientation, HIPAA policies, and basic disaster training that will include trainings on Incident Command System (ICS) and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) usage. There may also be trainings specific to the activity in which you will be participating. In addition, on-line trainings will be available to SRC volunteers. Training and orientation will be provided by HSPH and Georgetown University Faculty.
