Outlook Email Maintenance Windows Next Week

The IT department has just been made aware of some upcoming maintenance to the HUIT Microsoft Exchange/Outlook 2010 system scheduled for next week.

There will be 3 separate maintenance windows next week as HUIT implements redundant email service located in a separate datacenter.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Monday 4/30 from 11:30pm to 3:30am
  • Wednesday 5/2 from 11:30pm to 3:30am
  • Thursday 5/3 from 11:30pm to 1:30am

The following services will have one or two small outages:

(You can continue to work, but may have brief pauses while services restart)

  • The HUIT  Microsoft Exchange/Outlook 2010 system
  • This only affects the portion of our user community that has already been migrated

Outlook update and training opportunities

We are pleased to announce that the Microsoft Outlook email migration project has reached an important milestone.  1000 users are now live on the new email system!  We have successfully converted nearly 12 million items (messages, calendar appointments, etc.)  into the Harvard system.  We are also happy to report that we remain on schedule to complete the migration by the end of June.   The Department of Information Technology greatly appreciates the community’s patience and support in this large endeavor.

Training

If you are in need of Outlook training, there is space available in all upcoming training sessions.

Dates are as follows:

  • Monday, April 30, 9-noon or 1-4 pm
  • Monday, May 7, 9-noon or 1-4 pm
  • Monday, May 14, 9-noon or 1-4 pm
  • Monday, May 21, 9-noon or 1-4 pm
  • Monday, May 29, 9-noon or 1-4 pm

Training has received excellent reviews and is taught by New Horizons of Boston.  Trainers cover all major Outlook topics in a fast-paced three hour session.  Bring your questions!   All training is held in Kresge LL6.  Please call or email the Helpdesk at 432-HELP, helpdesk@hsph.harvard.edu to RSVP for a session.

Server Maintenance on Thursday, April 12, 2012

All updates were successfully completed.

On Thursday, April 12, 2012, we will be performing our normal system maintenance to all servers and network equipment.

The maintenance window will last from 7:00 PM til 1:00 AM.

The following services will have one or two small outages:

Monthly Email Maintenance Window on April 5th

Dear HSPH Community,

There will be a 2 hour planned outage on Outlook email services from Thursday April 5, 2012 at 11:30 pm to Friday, April 6, 2012 at 1:30 am.

This affects only our migrated Outlook users and does not affect people still using Groupwise.  This does not impact students in any way.

Services Affected

  • ICEmail email and calendaring (Outlook 2010/2011 and Outlook Web Access)
  • Lync messaging and web conferencing
  • Blackberry
