The HSPH Department of Information Technology welcomes new hire David Marshall. David will work as a senior web and application developer for the HSPH web team. David replaces Blain Smith, who left IT to become a partner at Mad Glory Interactive, a boutique design and development studio that builds online products for entertainment properties.
David joins us from US Sailing, where he was their web manager. He led moving their site to WordPress, the same platform adopted by HSPH for content management. He has excellent experience with and knowledge of open-source technologies/languages, including PHP, WordPress, AJAX and MySQL. He has a portfolio of more than a dozen clients.
David has a bachelor of arts in biological sciences from Connecticut College, where he graduated summa cum laude and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa. He was also named a Winthrop Scholar, the school’s highest academic honor.
In his new role as senior web and application developer, David will contribute to many important processes and projects, including:
- HSPH website redesign and maintenance and enhancement of WordPress environment
- MyHSPH portal development
- Maintenance and enhancement of the HSPH web team’s portfolio of web applications
- Oversight of our Google technologies (search, analytics)
- Training end users on use of web technology

Away from work, David is an avid sailor. He competed on his college sailing team and continues to race in both national and international competitions.
