Groupwise Shutdown

We are beginning to disable Groupwise, our former email and calendar platform,  as part of the shutdown process.  If you are still using Groupwise, please contact the Helpdesk at 432-HELP immediately for migration information.

In 2012, all faculty and staff were migrated from Groupwise to Microsoft Outlook/Exchange from January through June.  In the fall, all students were migrated from Groupwise to Gmail.

Congratulations to Anne Marie-Stathis

The Department of Information Technology is pleased to announce that Anne-Marie Stathis has been promoted to Senior SIS Support Specialist.

Anne-Marie’s dedication to the SIS project and her institutional knowledge has been invaluable in transitioning the SIS team to IT and in upgrading our system in March during spring break.

Please join us in congratulating Anne Marie on this well-deserved promotion.

Another Student Portrait Day Scheduled for Thursday, April 25, 2013

Due to the success of our first student portrait day in March and with Commencement quickly approaching, the Office for Student Affairs and Department of Information Technology are partnering to provide a portrait service for students.  A staff photographer will be on hand to take digital photographs with professional lighting on:

These digital photos will be ideal for LinkedIn profiles and other purposes.  After the shoot, students will receive electronic copies of the photographs for their use.

Student GMAIL service interruption

UPDATE at 10:52 AM: Service has been restored

8:25 AM: Access to Google Apps/Gmail for Harvard is currently interrupted. Students who are trying to connect to Google Apps for @mail.harvard.edu addresses will be unable to do so at this time.

Harvard University Information Technology (HUIT) technical staff are actively investigating the problem.

This appears to be a widespread Google issue.

Maintenance Window: Thursday, April 11, 2013

UPDATE: all upgrades were successful.

To all HSPH users,

This Thursday night, April 11, 2013, we will be performing our monthly system maintenance to all servers.

The maintenance window will last from 7PM to 1AM.

The following services will have one or two small outages:

You can continue to work, but may have brief pauses while services restart.

The following services will be unavailable from 7pm to 10pm:

  • ALICE
  • MyHSPH Portal

The following services will be unaffected during the maintenance window:

  • 5/19/2013 – Moved to accommodate the Academic Calendar

New Call Center Software at Helpdesk

The IT Helpdesk has implemented a new call center software to handle all incoming calls to the main Helpdesk number of 617-432-4357.

This new system will allow us to better handle and track the incoming calls we receive during the day. As with Outlook, this product brings us more in line with centrally run Harvard systems.

You will now be greeted by recorded message and hold music when you first call the Helpdesk phone, similar to calling any of the Harvard Central Admin phone numbers. Then your call will be answered by the next available technician.

You will also be given the option to leave a voice mail if you do not wish wait on the line. A technician will immediately be notified of your voicemail and will call you back as soon as possible.

We will also be expanding the hold menu options in the next few months and ask for any feedback or suggestions on our new process.
