Update Your iPhone or iPad for Better Performance

Both the HSPH Department of Information Technology and HUIT are recommending that all Apple iPhones and iPads running iPhone operating system (iOS) 6.1 or 6.1.1 upgrade their devices to the latest operating system as soon as possible to fix an interoperability issue between the device and Outlook/Exchange email.

A benefit of this upgrade is that users may see improved battery life once the update is applied.

HSPH’s second edX/HarvardX course begins tomorrow

HSPH’s second edX/HarvardX course, PH278x – Human Health and Global Environmental Change, begins tomorrow, Wednesday May 15th, at 12 pm.

About the Course
“One of the greatest challenges of our time is to address global environmental changes, such as climate change and biodiversity loss, that may harm the health of billions of people worldwide. This class will examine these changes, their causes, as well as their health consequences, and engage students in thinking about their solutions. Those who earn a passing grade will get a certificate of mastery from HarvardX.”

Maintenance Window: Thursday, May 16th

This Thursday night, May 19, 2013, we will be performing our monthly system maintenance to all servers.

The maintenance window will last from 7PM to 1AM.

The following services will have one or two small outages between 9-10pm:

WordPress Training this Week!

The web team will host two WordPress workshops this week:

  • Introductory WordPress will be offered on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 from 10 am to 11 am in Kresge 213.
  • Advanced WordPress will be offered on Thursday, May 16, 2013 from 10 am to 11 am in Kresge 213.

These sessions will help answer all of your questions about how to use WordPress to manage your HSPH site.  Come and meet the HSPH webteam!

ALICE/MyHSPH Maintenance This Wednesday, May 8th

UPDATE: All upgrades were successful.

The Department of Information Technology will be performing important infrastructure maintenance work that will take place Wednesday, May 8th, on the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS). This work is part of our migration project to newly purchased back-end storage systems.

The work is scheduled for Wednesday, May 8th, from 9:30pm – 11:30pm. The following systems will be affected:

• MyHSPH Portal
• ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
• Internet-native Banner (Administrative users)

Please Note:
In an effort to minimize impact to your user community, we will maintain a landing page at the school’s portal address of https://my.sph.harvard.edu which will respond and will provide direct links to services such as Email, Netstorage for access to network files, and iSites for coursework, among others.

HSPH Website Issue

At approximately 8:35 AM this morning, the HSPH main website began performing slowly and erratically.  IT staff members worked with our hosting partners to resolve the issue as quickly as possible.  We resolved the issue at approximately 9:25 am.  The issue was identified as a configuration issue on our load balancer.

Server Maintenance This Evening at 8:30 pm

The Department of Information Technology is writing to inform our community of emergency maintenance work that will take place tonight, Wednesday, May 1st, on the ALICE and MyHSPH Student Information Systems (SIS).

The work is scheduled for one hour this evening between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.  The following systems will be affected:

  • MyHSPH portal
  • ALICE Self Service for Students and Faculty
  • Internet Native Banner (Administrative users)

Additionally, at 8:30 pm and for approximately 5-10 minutes, we will be conducting a stress test on our web server to test enhancements recently made to the infrastructure.  You may experience slowness on http://www.hsph.harvard.edu during the test.
