This four-day window is designed to provide sufficient time to perform all needed upgrades.  During the upgrade process we will also implement changes to our portal configuration that will allow full functionality within the portal, even for other Harvard networks that are not part of the HSPH network.  If we are able to complete the work sooner than anticipated, we will notify all users when the systems are again available.

Congratulations to Alex Garcia-Rangel

We are pleased to announce that Alex Garcia-Rangel has been promoted to SIS Manager.  Alex has been the interim SIS manager since mid-November on a part-time basis.

Alex has been working on the SIS project since its inception in 2008.  He was on the implementation team as the technical lead.  Alex has built all servers for SIS, maintains our backups, maintains our disaster recovery site, and administers other products/servers that tie into Banner (e.g., EMS and PowerFAIDS).

Alex Garcia-Rangel

Alex has been with the HSPH IT Department for more than 10 years.  He first worked with our desktop team as a technician and was promoted to a server administrator position with the server team in 2006.  In addition to his excellent technical skills, his customer-service focus, strong troubleshooting skills, and outstanding communication skills will be an immediate asset to the SIS team.

Alex’s new responsibilities will include:

  • Managing team of 4 SIS employees.
  • Maintaining and upgrading Ellucian Banner infrastructure and MyHSPH portal.
  • Working with the Registrar, Admissions, and Financial Aid on planning, reporting, feature requests, and training needs.
  • Working with functional users from around the school to enhance and expand our system.

Please join us in congratulating Alex!

New Staff Member: Caryn D’Agostino

The HSPH Department of Information Technology welcomes new hire Caryn D’Agostino. Caryn will work as an Oracle DBA and banner system administrator for the department’s student information system (SIS) team.  She replaces Gagandeep Multani, who was on a contract assignment with HSPH.

With more than 7 years of Banner and Oracle experience in higher education, Caryn will be an immediate asset to HSPH and our department. She has a wealth of experience with upgrading components of Ellucian SIS systems.  Most recently at Emerson College, she successfully upgraded Oracle to version 11g as well as upgraded their software to the most recent versions.

Caryn D'Agostino

Prior to Emerson College, Caryn spent 3 years at Harvard Pilgrim Healthcare as a DBA.  She has also worked for EMC, Sungard/Ellucian and Curry College.   Throughout Caryn’s career, she has blended strong technical skills with outstanding communication skills.  We are looking forward to her contribution in improving our student information system and portal at HSPH.

Please join us in welcoming Caryn to our technical staff and to the HSPH community!

Interesting fact:  Caryn has been studying in the evening since 2008 at Boston University and is nearing completion of a master’s degree in computer information systems. Her undergraduate work was also in computer information systems.

SIS team members are:
