The causal effect of education on HIV risk: evidence from policy experiments in sub-Saharan Africa, with Jacob Bor
Education, particularly of girls, has been regaled as a “social vaccine” against HIV risk. However, no study to date has identified a causal effect of education on HIV infection. Using education policy changes as natural experiments, we assess the causal impact of schooling on HIV risk in several sub-Saharan African countries.
